Digestive system


Mouth/oral cavity

Salivary glands: Salivary amylase: 30% digestion of C.H

Salivary glands: Parotid gland, submandibular & submaxillary gland

Parotid gland: Largest and affects mumps

Oesophahus

25 cm long and 2 cm in dm covered by stratified squamous epithelium

Stomach

Consists of the cardiac, fundus, body and pylorus portions

Cells & Enzymes: Parietal Cells: HCL & I.F

Chief Cells (Zymogen) cells: Pepsinogen

Small Intestine

Parts: Duodenum, jejunum & ileum (6mtr in length)

Large Intestine

Parts: Ascending, transverse, descending & sigmoid colon

Absorbs water and eliminate waste (2mtr in length)

Liver

Largest gland in the body (Wt:1.5 kg & produces bile)

Fns: NH4, Urea, Stores, Vitamins A, D, B and Iron

Gall Bladder

The neck of the gall bladder tapers to form cystic duct which joins the common hepatic duct to become the common bile duct
